Proposed Uber regulations too lax: taxi industry

Taxi drivers say proposed city regulations for contentious ride-hailing services like Uber don't go far enough to "level the playing field." Councillors will be asked next week to approve new municipal regulations designed for "personal transportation providers." They include the need for marked vehicles, insurance, government-approved safety checks and separate licensing fees — up to $50,000, for large companies like Uber.
