CAN UBER OUTRUN ITS OWN FUTURE?

Wile it burns through billions of dollars in its quest to dominate the ride-hailing market, Uber is already setting its sights on a decidedly less terrestrial future: flying cars that avoid the congestion, and competition, of the world’s roadways entirely. Bloomberg reports that Uber has hired Mark Moore, a 30-year NASA veteran, to be the director of engineering of its nascent on-demand aviation service, which the company teased in a white paper last fall for Uber Elevate, a service that would allow a network of flying, electric drone taxis to land and take off from rooftops in urban areas.
